FROM WHERE I................
Dear Friends,
FROM WHERE I… how shall I finish my title for this “column” to you? “…Stand” won’t work because Katrina has displaced me twice. Thank God, “…Float” isn’t appropriate because, unlike so many of you, at both Temple and home, we were very fortunate not to be flooded. “From Where I Drift” might work because Cantor Colman and I are between locations where we can find and be with you!
Wherever we go, we try to get together with our Sinai family
members: Atlanta, Dallas, Jackson, Baton Rouge, Houston,
Cincinnati, Detroit. We are a congregation so widely dispersed.
Still looking for that perfect word to describe my current mood as our
High Holy Days draw near and even as my heart breaks that we cannot be
together, nor even begin what was going to be the best year yet in our
Religious School and Hebrew School. Perhaps “From Where I Think of You” will be my most realistic title.
I do
so miss each one of you and want to assure you that we are praying for
you and your families that you will all summon the extraordinary faith
and patience, insight and determination to rebuild your lives in
calmer, happier times.
Take
a moment wherever you are as Rosh HaShanah Eve draws near to slice up
an apple and to dip it into some sweet honey. And as you and your
dear ones enjoy the taste, lend a brief thought of how precious it is
every year when we are together in our beautiful Sinai Sanctuary.
Have
faith, dear ones. We will be together and back again. As
the Psalmist says, “Weeping may tarry for the night, but joy cometh in
the morning.” Andrea, Jennifer, and Debra join me in these most
heartfelt loving wishes for a Shanah Tovah to each and every one.
Faithfully yours,
Rabbi Edward Paul Cohn
